Galeria Cubana is pleased to present new work by the young artist Aissa Santiso in La artista, l´artiste, the artist. The artist’s latest paintings consist of a heterogeneous sampling of styles that create the artist’s aesthetic. The Hispanic, the French and the American shape this pictorial work, in which themes such as memory, identity and time are referents in each painting.
Santiso’s medium is oil on canvas, yet her technique is unusual. She conducts a washing and drying process with each canvas, so that three layers of paint can be sinuously distinguished in each painting. Her technique complements her mainly emotional and psychological paintings that explore candidly issues of gender, sexuality and identity.
Santiso was born in Cuba with lineages from both Spain and France. She is a graduate of the Institute of Superior Art (ISA) in Havana, Cuba. Santiso has been living in Madrid, Spain for 3 years.
